La Palmera Gives Helping Hand To Local Charities

Three Corpus Christi organizations working with mall to benefit others during holidays;
shopping sprees for deserving families part of the plan

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (December 3, 2008) – Whether it’s housing out of town guests with terminally ill children, providing mentoring to kids or serving the needs of children with special needs, countless families continue to seek assistance from Corpus Christi non-profits.

La Palmera has partnered with three organizations for the holidays – The Rise School, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Ronald McDonald House -- to help fundraising efforts and to provide some holiday cheer for deserving families.

The three organizations will each man a gift wrapping station the first three weekends of December from noon-6 p.m., providing holiday gift wrapping for tips and donations. The wrapping station will be located near the Nine West mall entrance facing SPID.  The Rise School is scheduled for Dec. 5-7, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Dec. 12-14, and Ronald McDonald House, Dec. 19-21.

“The needs of the community are ongoing,” said Trademark Property Founding Partner Terry Montesi. “There are so many organizations out there trying to make a difference and many depend on donations to make that happen. We are beginning to develop relationships with local non-profits to create ongoing opportunities for them at La Palmera.”

La Palmera is also working with the three organizations to each designate a family who will receive a $500 La Palmera gift card for holiday shopping.  Santa Claus will present the gift cards to representatives of each organization on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m.in the mall’s Center Court.

“We are happy to help out these great organizations,” said La Palmera General Manager Fred Walters. “We are always looking for ways to work with the community and hope other local non-profits will sign on for future events at La Palmera.”

Ronald McDonald House provides housing for out-of-town guests with critically or terminally ill children in the hospital. The money they raise from gift wrapping will be used to help offset operational expenses, such as providing rooms the families at the Corpus Christi location.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters will use the money raised for their one-on-one youth mentoring programs; they work with more than 200 kids in Corpus Christi and have been serving the area for more than three years.

The Rise School of Corpus Christi provides a variety of services to kids in Corpus Christi, predominately those with disabilities, working with both the children and their families.
