NEW JOBS CONTINUE TO ADD UP AS LA PALMERA TENANT ROSTER GROWS
Hundreds of jobs come to Corpus Christi; Aveda Institute Corpus Christi and Zumiez two newest tenants
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (May 13, 2010)– La Palmera continues to provide employment opportunities through its expansion and the addition of new tenants, making good on a promise made to the City of Corpus Christi.
When Trademark Property purchased the 1-million-square-foot regional mall in July 2008, part of the mission was to help stimulate the local economy, creating new jobs through new tenants. Through all new tenants scheduled to open this year, including Grimaldi’s Pizzeria and P.F. Chang’s, an estimated 361 jobs will have been created with more than 175 of those full-time.
“This is just tremendous news,” said La Palmera General Manager Fred Walters. “We felt certain we would be able to meet expectations but this is even better than we imagined.”
Aveda Institute Corpus Christi and Zumiez are the latest tenants to join the La Palmera line-up of more than 100 retail and restaurant tenants.
Aveda will have two locations: opening in October on the upper level, The Aveda Institute Corpus Christi (15,533 sf) will be the 51st campus nationwide and the fourth in Texas to offer education and hands-on Cosmetology and Esthiology training, while the Aveda retail store (1,000 sf), opens in July in the Outdoor Lifestyle Court, selling Aveda products and housing the student services and admissions area for the Institute. The Aveda Institute Corpus Christi will be an expansive, dedicated facility for education, fitness and beauty services and anticipates employing approximately 30 people as educators and support staff. New classes will begin every eight weeks with openings for 32 students in each.
Scheduled to open this summer, Zumiez (3,635 sf) will offer action-sports related gear and clothing for the skater, snowboarder, and surfer. The store will feature a couch with video games and television and 'skate shop. There are nearly 400 locations across the U.S.
“The $50 million renovation of La Palmera has allowed us to better utilize the existing space in the mall,” said Walters. “Both the 36,000-square-foot food court and the eight new retail locations directly above it were developed out of a former movie theater. The Outdoor Lifestyle Court is the other example of modifying and adding on to the existing footprint to allow for 35,000-square-feet of new retail and dining options.”
Since July 2008, there have been 20 new leases signed (61,733 sf) as well as 29 renewals & relocations (53,683 sf) for a total of 95,528 sf.
