NEW STORES AND MORE FOR LA PALMERA HOLIDAYS

Carter’s just announced;Finish Line and Crocs now open; holidays happenings in full swing

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (December 1, 2010) As the holiday shopping season gets underway, La Palmera continues to add new stores to its list of more than 100 retailers and restaurants.

Carter’s, providing the nation’s leading brand of children’s clothing, gifts and accessories, was announced today as the newest tenant to sign on at La Palmera. Construction is expected to begin this week on the 3,997-square-foot outdoor main entrance location.

Several other new stores have opened in time for holiday shoppers. Finish Line, which offers a wide variety of brand name athletic footwear, apparel and accessories, opened a 5,323-square-foot store Nov. 21 on the main level adjacent to Forever XXI. With more than 100 million pairs sold to date, Crocs opened its 1139-square-foot location Nov. 26 on the main level next to La Palmera Cafes food court, providing its popular footwear for men, women and children. Ruby Thai Kitchen, which was announced in September, has tentatively scheduled a Dec. 15 opening of its 919-square-foot location in the La Palmera Cafes food court.

“La Palmera is ready for the holidays,” said La Palmera General Manager Fred Walters. “We anticipate a good shopping season and with the recent addition of new tenants such as Finish Line and Crocs, customers have even more reasons to visit the mall.”

In addition to Finish Line and Crocs, nine other stores and restaurants have opened since the mall’s June grand opening, which followed a two-year $50 million renovation: Aveda Institute Corpus Christi, Coach, Francesca’s Collections, Lane Bryant, Reed’s, T-Mobile, Toys“R”Us Express, Ulta and Wendy’s.

As shoppers continue to head to the mall this season, so do many local charities, including the Marines annual Toys for Tots drive, collecting much-needed toys for Coastal Bend children. Collection boxes are at Toys“R”Us Express and Bourbon Street Candy Company through Dec. 17. The Salvation Army Angel Trees are on the mall’s upper level and the traditional bell ringers are at mall entrances.

There are also other ways to help local organizations.Shoppers can take advantage of La Palmera’s charity gift wrapping service available noon-6 p.m. each Friday through Sunday (the first three weekends of December), plus three bonus weekdays. Volunteers representing Focus Foundation (12/3-5), Ronald McDonald House (12/10-12), Mission of Mercy (Dec. 15), CASA of the Coastal Bend (12/17-19) and Big Brothers Big Sisters (12/22-23), will be stationed on the main level near Concierge and Forever XXI accepting donations for their services.

Pet lovers can bring their favorite kitty or canine for “Pet Night with Santa,” held Tuesday, Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec.21, from 5-9 p.m. each evening. A portion of the photo proceeds from those events will benefit Pets and Animal Life Shelter (PALS) (Dec. 7), Gulf Coast Humane Society (Dec. 14) and Paws Up (Dec. 21). Only dogs and cats are permitted and all animals must remain on a leash or in a carrier at all times.
