“READY OR NOT FOR THE HOLIDAYS” – SHOPPING FOR A GOOD CAUSE

”Friday Night Lights” heartthrob Jeremy Sumpter at Oct. 20 kick-off event

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (October 14, 2010)– La Palmera is teaming up with the Ready or Not Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for pediatric brain cancer,to benefit the Ready or Not for the Holidays shopping fundraiser Oct. 22-31.

The “Ready or Not for the Holidays Shopping Card,” available at La Palmera Concierge or buythecard.com, provides special 20% savings at participating local merchants Oct. 22-31, including Coach, Gap, Zumiez, Francesca’s Collections and more at La Palmera. The $50 cost of the card is tax deductible and all funds go directly to the Ready or Not Foundation. A complete list of participating merchants can be found at buythecard.com.

To kick off this year’s event, teen heartthrob Jeremy Sumpter will participate in a fundraising autograph session at La Palmera on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 7-9 p.m. in Macy’s corridor, adjacent to Center Court. The 21-year-old Sumpter has appeared in numerous films and television series, including his role as J.D. McCoy on “Friday Night Lights.” The popular star, who recently completed the new feature films Soul Surfer and You’re So Cupid, will meet and greet fans and have autographed photos available.

“We are pleased to partner once again with the Ready or Not Foundation,” said La Palmera General Manager Fred Walters. “We anticipate a good turnout for the kick-off event with Jeremy and hope everyone will come out to support this worthy cause.”

The Ready or Not Foundation was founded by Barbara Canales following the 2006 diagnosis of her daughter Jackie’s brain tumor at the age of 6, a discovery literally made by accident. Jackie was playing hide and go seek at school when she bumped her head on an oak tree and the ensuing trip to the pediatrician for a quick CAT scan revealed a large tumor in the back of Jackie’s brain. Jackie remains in remission, but the life-changing ordeal inspired Canales to start the Ready or Not Foundation, which has delivered an unprecedented 100% of donations -- $1.5 million to date -- to pediatric brain cancer research.
