DIRECT FROM THE NORTH POLE – SANTA ARRIVING AT LA PALMERA

Santa arrival via HALO-Flight helicopter Nov. 11

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Nov. 5, 2010) – The holiday shopping season officially begins with Santa’s annual arrival at La Palmera on Thursday, Nov. 11.

The evening’s festivities will take place from 5-9 p.m. with three stages featuring live entertainment and music plus children’s activities, food and more throughout the mall. Scheduled performances include Alcorta’s Folklorico dancers on the outdoor main entrance stage, Bay Area Dance Team and musical group Shake the Nation at Center Court, and Dave’s Duo at the food court stage. Kids will also enjoy milk and cookies, as well as storytelling with Mrs. Claus near the children’s play area on the upper level.

Santa will arrive via Corpus Christi-based HALO-Flight helicopter near the outdoor main entrance at 6 p.m. The Corpus Christi Fire and Police Departments will then escort him to the outdoor main entrance stage for a special welcome ceremony. Immediately following the ceremony, U.S. Marines and community mascots will escort Santa to his traditional throne in Center Court.

La Palmera merchants will also be part of the festive atmosphere with demonstrations and specials throughout the evening.

Several local charities will also have a presence at La Palmera this holiday season, including the Marines who have kicked off their annual Toys for Tots drive, collecting much-needed toys for Coastal Bend children. Collection boxes are at Toys’R’Us and Bourbon Street Candy Company through Dec. 17.

Shoppers can also take advantage of La Palmera’s charity gift wrapping service available Friday through Sunday the first three weekends of December, plus two bonus days Christmas week. Volunteers representing Focus Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, CASA of the Coastal Bend and Big Brothers Big Sisters, and will each take a weekend and be stationed on the main level near Concierge and Forever XXI. The Salvation Army will place their Angel Trees in the mall’s upper level and stage their traditional bell ringing campaign at the mall entrances.

Santa will be available for visits and photos with boys and girls through Dec. 24 in Center Court during regular mall hours. Pet lovers can also bring their favorite kitty or canine for “Pet Night with Santa,” held Tuesday, Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec.21, from 5-9 p.m. each evening.
