NEW TENANTS ANNOUNCED AS LA PALMERA RENOVATION NEARS COMPLETION
Ulta, and Wendy’s sign leases; community appreciation event scheduled for new Outdoor Lifestyle Court
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (March 25, 2010)– In July 2008, Trademark Property made a promise to transform a 40-year-old mall into a shining jewel for Corpus Christi. That promise is now becoming reality as the $50 million renovation is quickly nearing completion and La Palmera is poised to emerge as one of South Texas’ premiere shopping and leisure destinations.
La Palmera will celebrate with a Community Appreciation Mix & Mingle event this Friday, March 26, marking the opening of the Outdoor Lifestyle Court and the new main entrance, one of the final milestones in the mall’s transformation. The event, which begins at 2 p.m., includes several local officials and will be followed by a public reception beginning at 4 p.m.
Shoppers will find the new Charming Charlie fashion accessories boutique, which recently opened as one of the 42-store chain’s top performers, as well as new landscaping and interactive pop jet fountains. Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, ranked as one of New York City’s top pizzerias, is set to open in April in the new Lifestyle Court with P.F. Chang’s following in June.
“We have always recognized that La Palmera is an important asset to the Corpus Christi community,” said Trademark Property Chairman-CEO Terry Montesi. “We want to thank our customers for their patience through the renovation process. Despite the inconveniences of construction, they have continued to support La Palmera and we appreciate that support. We have enjoyed our partnership with the City of Corpus Christi and pledge to continually improve on the first class environment and community amenity that La Palmera is today.”
Trademark also announced today signing two new tenants. Ulta, the largest beauty retailer to provide one-stop shopping for salon products and services in the United States, will open this fall. The store, Ulta’s first in Corpus Christi, will be located in a newly constructed exterior space (9,800 sf) adjacent to P.F. Chang’s at the mall’s main entrance. Wendy’s (700 sf), offering fresh, made-to-order menu items, will open in the La Palmera Cafes food court in July.
Since July 2008, there have been 19 new leases signed (41,845 sf) as well as 29 renewals & relocations (53,683 sf) for a total of 95,528 sf. To date, 15 new tenants have opened: Dallas Cowboys Pro Shop, Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen, Sarku Japan, H.J. Smoothies & Creamery, Stir Fry 88, Coffee Beanery, Pretzel Maker, Verizon, Little Surprises, Michel Perfume, Regis, Subway, MTV Nails, Charming Charlie and VANS.
Other improvements and additions since last fall include a new 600-seat food court and 4,500-gallon feature aquarium, a new children’s play area and new Center Court, featuring a fountain and coffee bar. The three department stores have also made changes with Macy’s undergoing a major expansion and renovation last year along with renovations to Dillard’s as well. JCPenney recently opened a new “Sephora Inside JCPenney” store and is planning for renovations later this year.
“We are pleased to have had this opportunity to make our vision for the mall a reality,” said Montesi. “As promised, La Palmera, is becoming a leisure destination unparalleled in the region.”
