La Palmera Begins Renovation Process

Today’s installation of interim signage the beginning of major renovation process

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (July 13, 2008) – It’s a sign of things to come. Eight signs, to be exact, being lifted into place at La Palmera, signaling the start of $50 million in renovations planned for the nearly 40-year-old mall.

The interim signage being installed today and tomorrow, Aug. 13-14, includes three large pylon signs in the parking areas as well as five signs over mall entrances.

In July, Trademark Property Co. purchased the 1,017,704-square-foot Padre Staples Mall, now known as La Palmera. Renovations are scheduled to be completed in November 2009.

“The temporary signage is symbolic because it marks the first steps of this transformation process,” said Trademark Founding Partner Terry Montesi. “The signs will go up; then you’ll start to notice other things like new interior landscaping, new trash cans and fresh paint. It’s going to be a lot of little things at the beginning but they are all designed to improve the shopping experience while we prepare to begin a complete makeover of La Palmera.”

Other new elements planned in the next few weeks include upgraded seating and interior landscaping as well as new trash receptacles. Some areas have already been re-painted and more cosmetic work on existing structures is planned for the near future.

Plans call for transforming the main entrance into an outdoor lifestyle court with lush palm seating areas and other amenities including access to new shops and restaurants, installing indoor landscaping, giving the food court a new aquatic-theme complete with a large feature aquarium, building a new one-of-a-kind children’s play area and bringing in new restaurants. Other amenities will include soft seating, fountains, signage and graphics, landscaping and lighting upgrades throughout the property.

La Palmera will remain open during the scheduled 15-month process. Current tenants include Dillard’s, JCPenney, Macy’s and over 100 shops including: Abercrombie & Fitch, Aeropostale, American Eagle, Bath & Body Works, Buckle, Express, Forever 21, Gap, Journeys, New York & Company, Nine West, Pac Sun, Victoria’s Secret and Wet Seal.

Trademark will pursue LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for the facility from the U.S. Green Building Council.
