Take a Walk On The Wild Side at La Palmera

Award-winning photographs from Coastal Bend Wildlife Photo Contest on display in new “artspace”

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (January 6, 2011) More than 100 award-winning photographs from the 2009 Coastal Bend Wildlife Photo Contest (CBWPC) are now on display at La Palmera.

The traveling exhibit is on display January 6 through February 18 in La Palmera’s new artspace, an area located on the upper level above the food court designed to display public art exhibits.

Since 2000, the non-profit CBWPC, a 501(c) (3), has worked to raise awareness and promote the conservation and protection of Coastal Bend wildlife and habitats. The contest, considered one of the most challenging in the world, pairs photographers with private landowners from 16 counties surrounding Corpus Christi into teams who then work over several months time to capture the amazing images. Top teams from the 2009 contest shared over $90,000 in prize money for their award-winning images. Another contest is currently underway.

A series of five “Wildlife in Focus” books have been published featuring winning images from each contest. The book sales and sponsorships support other programs as well including Kritters 4 Kids, which works to raise youth awareness of Coastal Bend wildlife through educational programs and the Traveling Benefactors Photo Exhibit, which showcases the winning photographs in dozens of venues each year.   “These photographs are just stunning,” said La Palmera General Manager Fred Walters. “I think our shoppers will truly enjoy this display. This is exactly the kind of exhibit we want to continue featuring in our new artspace at La Palmera. We hosted several displays in 2010 and found it to be a great way to raise awareness and showcase community organizations.”
