LA PALMERA GEARING UP FOR TAX-FREE SHOPPERS

  Mall expecting higher traffic as retailers offer back-to-school savings

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (August 15, 2011) – As parents and students prepare for school to begin, many are also planning to take advantage of tax-free shopping August 19-21 to purchase back-to-school items, including clothing, shoes and accessories.

            “We always see increased traffic on tax-free weekend,” said La Palmera General Manager Fred Walters. “Being able to save on both local and state sales taxes can really add up for many families, particularly those buying for more than one child.”

            La Palmera will have extended hours on Friday, Aug. 19, and Saturday, Aug. 20, from 10 a.m.-10 p.m., with regular mall hours Sunday, Aug. 21, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Officers from the Corpus Christi Police Department will be on site Friday through Sunday to assist with traffic control, making it easier for customers to navigate their way in and out of parking areas.

            Valet parking is available for $5 at the main entrance near P.F. Chang’s and for added convenience, shoppers can now call in or text their valet claim number to (361) 331-7310 and have their car waiting for them. Those preferring to use valet parking can also pick up a Valet Parking Loyalty Card at Concierge, which provides one complimentary valet service after four paid.

            Tax-free items once again include most basic school supplies as well backpacks, clothing, shoes and many accessories under $100 used by elementary and secondary students. A complete list of eligible items is available at lapalmera.com/index.php/events-sales.

Many of La Palmera’s retailers are offering specials on these items including shoes at Stride Rite; girls and guys jeans, shorts, t-shirts and backpacks at Pac Sun; $10 denim, 30% off uniforms and backpacks and 40% off fall markdowns at The Children’s Place; shoes, hats and backpacks at Claire’s; and up to 50% off many favorites including clothing and shoes at Carter’s.Shoppers will also find special deals at many stores whose merchandise does not qualify for tax-free status.
