Installation of new escalators underway; mall to give away shopping sprees during construction
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Sept. 3, 2008) – As the last of the interim La Palmera signage is being installed, work is now beginning on the Main Level escalators located near Customer Service Center. It is expected to take approximately one month to remove the existing 24-inch-wide escalators and replace them with new 48-inch-wide versions.
“This is just part of our ongoing effort to improve the overall shopping experience at La Palmera,” said Trademark Property Founding Partner Terry Montesi. “We wanted to get the escalators changed out as soon as possible so everything is up and running prior to the busy holiday season.”
In preparation for the project, a construction barricade has been set up around the current 22-year-old escalators. Signage has also been installed informing customers to use the main staircase and elevator located in front of Radio Shack or to use the escalators located inside Dillard’s to reach the second level of the mall. During the construction, the Frost Bank ATM will temporarily be relocated by Kids Footlocker and The Love Note.
During the month-long construction period, La Palmera will give away $250 shopping sprees through weekly drawings.
“We wanted to do something nice for our shoppers to help offset the potential inconvenience during this time,” said La Palmera General Manager Fred Walters. “We invite our customers to enter at the display area located on the upper level near AT&T.”
In all, nearly $50 million will be spent on transforming the former Padre Staples Mall into a top retail destination. Renovations are expected to be complete by fall 2009.
