Mall working with authorities to identify suspect in recent Corpus Christi bombing attempts
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Oct. 13, 2008) – La Palmera has further stepped up security efforts following the second attempt by an individual to set off an explosive device in the mall. Local and state officials are also seeking the mall’s assistance in apprehending the suspect who has yet to be identified.
“We take the safety of our customers and tenants very seriously,” said Trademark Property Founding Partner Terry Montesi. “We want to assure everyone that we are not only providing a pleasant shopping experience, we are working to provide a safe environment as well and are taking measures to further improve our security.”
Yesterday’s event is one of several recent firebombing attempts in Corpus Christi and the second at La Palmera. Police responded to the mall around 1:15 p.m. Sunday after witnesses saw an unidentified black male throw the device, which did not explode; no one was injured. When police arrived, they found the Molotov cocktail near the main level escalators. The incident is similar to one that happened at the mall in August when someone fitting the same description threw a device from the balcony of Dillard’s, also with no resulting injuries.
La Palmera officials continue to meet with local and state officials regarding the incidents
