HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS IN FULL SWING AT LA PALMERA
Charity Gift Wrapping and Pet Nights with Santa among holiday offerings
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Nov. 24, 2009) - The holiday shopping season will officially begin this Friday with the traditional early openings to accommodate anxious holiday shoppers.
The doors at La Palmera, as well as Dillard's, will open at 8 a.m. on Friday with JCPenney welcoming shoppers at 4 a.m. and Macy's open at 5 a.m. Special holiday hours for La Palmera and the department stores will run through January 1, 2010.
Local charities will be participating in a number of events throughout the holidays. La Palmera's charity gift wrapping service is available each Friday through Sunday, the first three weekends of December on the lower level near Dillard's. Volunteers representing three local charities will each take a weekend, providing the wrapping service for tips and donations from noon to 6 p.m. This year's participants are Big Brothers Big Sisters (Dec. 4-6), Ronald McDonald House of Corpus Christi (Dec 11-13) and CASA of the Coastal Bend (Dec.18-20).
Shoppers will also be treated to a life-size gingerbread house, courtesy of the Omni Hotel, located in the new upper level retail area above the food court. Decorated by the Omni's executive chef Dean Sprague, the house will be in place throughout the holidays for the "Fill the House" program to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House of Corpus Christi.
The Salvation Army has two Angel Trees located on the upper level near Forever XXI and is also staging their traditional bell-ringing campaign at the mall entrances.
Santa will be available for visits and photos through Dec. 24 at his Polar Express location in Center Court. Pet lovers can also bring their favorite kitty or canine for "Pet Night with Santa," held Wednesday, Dec. 2, Dec. 9 and Dec.16, from 5-9 p.m. with a portion of the photo proceeds to benefit Paws UP (Dec. 2), Gulf Coast Humane Society (Dec. 9) and PALS (Dec. 16). Only dogs and cats are permitted and all animals must remain on a leash or in a carrier at all times.
The holidays will also mean improved guest services including valet parking expanding to seven days a week beginning Friday, Nov. 27, and Concierge, offering a variety of services from its new location in the renovated West Court near Forever XXI.
