LA PALMERA TEAMS UP TO HELP TORNADO VICTIMS
May 14 La Palmera Cares community outreach program
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (May 11, 2011) – La Palmera is partnering with Corpus Christi-based Ainsworth Trucking for a one-day event to assist victims of the recent tornadoes by collecting much-needed items, including canned food and personal hygiene items.
The event will be held at La Palmera on Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Dillard’s parking lot on the McArdle side of the of the mall, where an Ainsworth Trucking vehicle will be set up to receive donated goods.
Items needed include: new undergarments for all ages; baby items such as food, formula, diapers and wipes; canned food with easy open lids; personal hygiene items, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, lip balm and sun screen; sports drinks; and large plastic containers with lids, which storm victims are using to collect personal items from their damaged homes.
“The recent tornadoes were just devastating and we are trying to find ways to help,” said La Palmera General Manager Fred Walters. “La Palmera has worked with Ainsworth Trucking previously on other relief efforts and we are so grateful for their contribution in making this a successful effort.”
Representatives from Ainsworth will be taking items collected at La Palmera, as well as other Corpus Christi locations, and delivering them the following week to an organization in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for distribution to storm victims in the local community.
“We are very blessed to be able to continue to find ways to help in disasters of this nature,” said David Ainsworth, president of Ainsworth Trucking. “La Palmera has become a great partner for us in events such as this and we are pleased to be working with them once again for such a worthy cause.”
La Palmera is also helping to promote the efforts of The American Red Cross through signage posted throughout the mall. Those wishing to donate money or schedule a blood donation may do so online at www.redcross.org or by calling 800-RED CROSS; texting REDCROSS to 90999 on a mobile phone will automatically donate $10 to the relief effort with the donation being billed to the user’s wireless account.
All efforts are part of the ongoing La Palmera Cares program, established to assist in humanitarian efforts in the local community and beyond through fundraising and awareness. Other events include those to assist earthquake victims in Haiti and earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan.
