Mall expecting busy weekend as retailers offer back-to-school savings

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (August 7, 2013) – As parents and students count down the days until school begins, many are also planning to take advantage of tax-free shopping August 9-11 to purchase back-to-school items, including clothing, shoes and accessories.

“The tax-free shopping weekend is always one of the busiest of the year,” said La Palmera General Manager Fred Walters. “Families now plan on these weekends to save money, particularly those buying for more than one student.”

La Palmera will have extended hours on Friday, Aug. 9, and Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9 a.m.-10 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 11 from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Officers from the Corpus Christi Police Department will be on site Friday through Sunday to assist with traffic control, making it easier for customers to navigate their way in and out of parking areas.

Valet parking is available for $7 at the main entrance near P.F. Chang’s and for added convenience, shoppers can now call in or text their valet claim number to (361) 283-0777 and have their car waiting for them.

Tax-free items once again include most basic school supplies as well backpacks, clothing, shoes and many accessories under $100 used by elementary and secondary students. Shoppers will also find special deals at many stores whose merchandise does not qualify for tax-free status.

La Palmera will also be giving away a locker full of back-to-school items, including hundreds of dollars in product and gift cards from La Palmera retailers. Shoppers can enter to win August 9-24 at mall Concierge, where the locker will be on display. There is no purchase necessary and the winner will be announced August 25.
