Local Charities Welcome Holiday Giving at LA Palmera

Annual La Palmera programs raise awareness and dollars for local no-profits

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Nov. 25, 2014) – The holiday shopping season officially begins this week with Black Friday sales and the start of extended holiday hours at La Palmera, but it is also the season to support local Coastal Bend charities.

“This is the season of giving and we want that to extend to our local charities that do so much for our community,” said Fred Walters, general manager of La Palmera and The Shops at La Palmera. “We host a number of annual programs and events at La Palmera to assist these groups in raising money and awareness and are grateful for the public support we receive. This year we are working with 10 different organizations throughout the holiday season.”

Guests can once again enjoy the Forest of Giving, a collection of uniquely decorated trees representing seven local charities: The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center of Corpus Christi; CASA of the Coastal Bend; Dress for Success; Mission Pawsible Animal Assistance; For the Love of Strays; Boys and Girls Club of Corpus Christi, decorated by Tejas Broadcasting; and Bikes for Kids, decorated by Malkan Interactive. Located near Aldo Shoes, the public is invited to vote for their favorite through December 10. The tree receiving the most votes will then receive $2,500 for the Coastal Bend charity of their choice from La Palmera.

Santa is available for visits and photos with boys and girls through Dec. 24 in Center Court during extended holiday mall hours, but pet lovers can bring their favorite dog or cat for “Pet Night with Santa” held Tuesday, Dec. 2, 9 and 16 from 5-8 p.m. A portion of the photo proceeds from those events will benefit local animal organizations: For the Love of Strays (12/2), The Cattery (12/9), and Paws Up (12/16). Only dogs and cats are permitted and all animals must remain on a leash or in a carrier at all times.

Guests can also take advantage of La Palmera’s popular charity gift-wrapping service every Friday through Sunday beginning Dec. 5. Volunteers representing Bikes for Kids (12/5–7), The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center of Corpus Christi (12/12–4), and CASA of the Coastal Bend (12/19–21) will each

take a weekend and be stationed on the main level near Concierge, providing their wrapping services for donations. Volunteers from Dress for Success will also be on hand Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 22–24 to wrap gifts for last minute shoppers.
