Fashion Show Wraps Ready.Set.Gold. at La Palmera

Organizers pleased with month-long campaign for childhood cancer awareness

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (September 25, 2015) – The Ready.Set.Gold. campaign at La Palmera, raising awareness and funds for all forms of pediatric cancer, prepares to wrap a successful month with a special fashion show on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Scheduled for 2-3 p.m. in Center Court, the show will feature fall trends for adults and kids from a variety of La Palmera stores including Macy’s, Michael Kors Shop in Shop at Macy’s, Scrub Hub, Journey’s, Sun Optics and others, with Build-A-Bear providing some special touches. Students from Aveda Institute Corpus Christi will provide hair and make-up for the 25 featured models.

Two children staying at the Ronald McDonald House who are affected by cancer will participate in the show, while others will be special guests at the event. The show is open to the public and limited seating is available on a first come, first served basis.

La Palmera partnered with the Ready or Not Foundation and other local organizations for Ready.Set.Gold., which officially ends on September 30.  The month has included an informational display featuring local children affected by cancer, children’s activities, and fundraising through a special tree in Center Court with individuals donating to purchase “golden” leaves to fill the tree. All funds will be donated for research at Texas Children’s Cancer Center in Houston, the largest pediatric cancer center in the U.S.

“The primary goal of Ready.Set.Gold. has been to raise awareness for pediatric cancer during National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month,” said Fred Walters, vice president and general manager of La Palmera and The Shops at La Palmera. “With the help of our partners, we have been able to reach hundreds of thousands of guests this month at La Palmera.”

La Palmera’s primary partner in Ready.Set.Gold. is the Corpus Christi-based Ready or Not Foundation, founded by Barbara Canales following the 2006 diagnosis of her daughter Jackie’s brain tumor at age 6. Jackie remains in remission and the organization continues its mission to raise funds and awareness for pediatric brain cancer research.
