LA PALMERA READY TO “MAKE A DIFFERENCE” THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
Local charities to benefit from multiple events
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Nov. 15, 2013) – La Palmera may offer the best shopping south of the North Pole, but this holiday, it will also be the place to “Make a Difference” in the Coastal Bend community.
“Shoppers love the holiday atmosphere at La Palmera as well as the variety and convenience we offer,” said La Palmera General Manager Fred Walters. “But on a deeper level, La Palmera is also committed to ‘Make a Difference’ in our community, a concept we embrace year-round. During the holidays, the need can be even greater, so we’re working to help as many Coastal Bend organizations as possible through a variety of programs and are grateful for the public support we receive.”
Guests can once again take advantage of La Palmera’s popular charity gift-wrapping service every Friday through Sunday beginning November 29. Volunteers representing Texas-South Fastpitch (11/29-12/1), Bikes for Kids (12/6-8), Dress for Success (12/13-15), and CASA of the Coastal Bend (12/20-22) will each take a weekend and be stationed on the main level near Concierge, providing their wrapping services for donations. Volunteers from Big Brothers and Big Sisters will also be on hand Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 23-24 to wrap gifts for last minute shoppers.
Santa is available for visits and photos with boys and girls through Dec. 24 in Center Court during mall holiday hours, but pet lovers can also bring their favorite canine or kitty for “Pet Night with Santa” held Sunday, Nov. 24 from 5-7 p.m., and Dec. 1 and Dec. 8 from 5-8 p.m. A portion of the photo proceeds from those events will benefit local animals organizations, including PAWS Up (12/8). Only dogs and cats are permitted and all animals must remain on a leash or in a carrier at all times.
While waiting to visit with Santa, guests will meander through the Forest of Giving, a collection of 11 uniquely decorated trees representing local charities. The public is invited to vote through Dec. 15 for their favorite, and the tree receiving the most votes will receive $2,500 from La Palmera for the charity represented.
The Salvation Army has its Angel Tree located in the Center Court Forest of Giving, as well as the traditional bell ringing campaign at the mall entrances, and the U.S. Marines Toys For Tots collection box is located at Concierge.
The holiday atmosphere will include surprise visits from “Freddy the Elf” spreading holiday cheer – and special deals – throughout La Palmera. Shoppers can follow Freddy on Twitter to see what he will do next.
There will be also be live entertainment throughout the holidays with numerous school and community groups already scheduled to entertain shoppers with holiday music and performances beginning December 7 in the food court. Groups interested in performing are asked to contact La Palmera for more information.
