Creation of the La Palmera Shopping District now complete

FORT WORTH, Texas (November 18, 2014) – The Shops at La Palmera will hold its official grand opening Thursday, November 20.

The celebration begins with a 10 a.m. reception for invited guests, including dignitaries representing the City of Corpus Christi and local Chamber of Commerce members, followed by a ceremonial ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. The event marks the official end of renovation work and the completion of the newly created 80-acre La Palmera Shopping District.

“Because of Corpus Christi’s growth and the great success we have had with La Palmera, there has been an increased demand from national retailers wanting a foothold in the Coastal Bend,” said Fred Walters, general manager of La Palmera and The Shops at La Palmera. “The redesign and renovation of The Shops at La Palmera allows us to better accommodate those retailers and creates the La Palmera Shopping District, a major, regional shopping destination.”

IMI and Trademark together acquired La Palmera in 2008, which underwent its own two-year renovation from 2008-2010.

“The one-million square feet of retail and dining at La Palmera, and 230,602 square feet available at The Shops at La Palmera just across from the mall, already provides shoppers more than 130 retailers and restaurants with more on the way.”

Since 2013, The Shops at La Palmera has welcomed a number of national retailers including Dick’s Sporting Goods, T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, DSW, Jared The Galleria of Jewelry, dressbarn, Corner Bakery Café and Chipotle, with others on the way, including Today’s Vision and The Beef Jerky Outlet.

Santa Claus to kick of magical new show November 13 at La Palmera holiday party

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (October 30, 2014) – Preparations are underway for La Palmera’s annual holiday party, but this time, the jolly man in red has some new magic up his sleeve.

This year’s event on Thursday, November 13, will feature the premiere of Holiday Light Spectacular, a new one-of-a-kind light show produced by Los Angeles-based PaintScaping and director Philippe Bergeron, which will magically transform La Palmera’s Center Court into a winter wonderland.

Santa Claus will be in Center Court to kick off the first show at 6 p.m. The evening also includes the traditional holiday party activities from 5-8 p.m., including arts and crafts, cookies and storytelling with Mrs. Claus, live entertainment, as well as promotions and giveaways from La Palmera merchants to kick off the holiday shopping season.

Approximately 4-5 minutes in length, Holiday Light Spectacular will run three times nightly through December 12 at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.

“This is the kind of show you expect to see in Vegas, New York or L.A.,” said La Palmera General Manager Fred Walters. “We are very excited to be working with PaintScaping to bring this technology to the Coastal Bend for the first time. It’s also exciting to be adding this new element to our annual holiday party because we’re sure our guests are absolutely going to love it.”

Holiday Light Spectacular incorporates 3D projection mapping, merging real and virtual worlds by using walls instead of screens for a canvas and aligning dazzling light and animation with architectural features. The company has produced unique 3D mapping shows all over the world, including Orlando, Los Angeles, Quebec City, Hawaii, Cancun, Las Vegas, and Chicago.

“Indeed, the La Palmera holiday show will feature virtual snow, elves, and of course, Santa Claus, with vintage toys magically coming in and out of trap doors,” said PaintScaping President Philippe Bergeron. “Sometimes, it’s impossible to distinguish between what is real and what is not.”

Also a successful actor, Bergeron has appeared in numerous films and television shows such as Iron Man 2, The Sopranos, Mad Men, Rush Hour 3, Godzilla, Entourage, E.R., and Contact, working with some of the industry’s biggest stars including Nicolas Cage, Robert Downey Jr., Jodie Foster, Jamie Foxx, James Gandolfini, and Bradley Cooper.

“Show business is in my blood, so PaintScaping will bring a little bit of Hollywood to Corpus Christi,” said Bergeron. “The La Palmera show will be accompanied by soaring music just like in the movies.”

And just to make sure everything goes as planned for the big debut, Santa will be in town a little early this year, returning to La Palmera on Thursday, November 6. He’ll be meeting with boys and girls and posing for photos in Center Court beginning at 10 a.m. that day, and will be available through December 24 during regular mall hours.

Summer activities are fun, but also serve a purpose

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (July 23, 2014) – Sand sculptures, a giant shark and a playhouse. It’s all for fun, but it’s fun with a purpose as La Palmera continues supporting community programs in the Coastal Bend through its Make a Difference program.

The first effort this summer came in the form of a photo op with a giant sand sculpture in Center Court. Shoppers lined up July 3-13 to have their photo taken with the unique sand art, designed for La Palmera by local sand sculptor Chip Cooper, with a portion of the photo proceeds going to the Surfrider Foundation (www.coastalbend.surfrider.org) to help with local beach clean-up efforts. Done in conjunction with Hurricane Alley, La Palmera will present a $500 check to Surfriders on Friday, July 25 at 10 a.m.

“This donation will go toward our continued work to keep the Coastal Bend beaches and Gulf waters clean and open to the public,” said Neil McQueen, vice chair of the Coastal Bend Chapter, Surfrider Foundation. “This type of donation assists us in fulfilling the Surfrider Foundation’s international mission providing ‘protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network.’”

La Palmera will provide another philanthropic photo op in conjunction with Texas State Aquarium August 8-17 themed to the popular “Shark Week.” Guests can once again head to Center Court to have their photo taken with a large replica shark with a portion of photo proceeds going to benefit Coastal Bend Bays Foundation (www.baysfoundation.org) to assist with local conservation efforts.

Shoppers will also have the chance to win a playhouse-sized home, complete with a railed front porch designed by Braselton Homes. Located in Center Court, the unique “Forever Kids Braselton CASA” playhouse is being raffled off with all proceeds from ticket sales going to benefit CASA of the Coastal Bend. Tickets may be purchased now through noon on August 14 at La Palmera Concierge for $5 each, or two for $8. Guests can also make CASA donations on site at the playhouse. Details are available at www.coastalbendcasa.wordpress.com or by calling (361) 884-2272.

“Since 2008 when the mall became La Palmera, we have pursued a variety of opportunities to work with the Coastal Bend community,” said Fred Walters, general manager of La Palmera and The Shops at La Palmera. “Through our Make a Difference program, we have sponsored events and organizations, hosted fundraisers and blood drives, and acted as a venue for a number of non-profit and educational events. Since 2011, we have raised, and assisted others in raising, more than $6 million through various efforts at La Palmera.”

Each year the mall sets up “Pet Night” photo opportunities with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny with a portion of the proceeds going to organizations helping animals. The mall also has an ongoing “Change for Charity” program, collecting change from the Center Court fountain and presenting the proceeds to local community groups. La Palmera also maintains ongoing relationships with organizations such as The Coastal Compass Education & Career Resource Center, providing space for the not-for-profit organization designed to help Coastal Bend residents “discover their direction” while preparing for college or the workforce, and providing services to improve quality of life. Since 2010, the Corpus Christi Police Department has utilized office space at the mall for a satellite office

— FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE —

MOMENTUM CONTINUES AT THE SHOPS AT LA PALMERA AS FOUR NATIONAL TENANTS OPEN IN NOVEMBER
Two other tenants also announced for renovated center

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Dec. 2, 2013) – The transformation of The Shops at La Palmera in Corpus Christi, Texas, continues as Dick’s Sporting Goods, T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods and Jared The Galleria of Jewelry all have recently opened in time for holiday shopping.

Trademark also announced the signing of Great Clips and Eden Nails and Spa for the outdoor center. Both are scheduled to open in spring 2014.

“The Shops at La Palmera continues to move towards completion with the opening of these four popular retailers,” said Trademark CEO Terry Montesi. “The renovation of this outdoor center is on schedule and we see it quickly transforming into the vision we had planned. We are pleased to have so many new retail options available for Corpus Christi shoppers.”

Dick’s Sporting Goods, the largest U.S. based full-line sporting goods retailer, held its grand opening November 1, T.J. Maxx and HomeGoods, two of the nation’s leading value priced retailers, opened November 17, and Jared The Galleria of Jewelry opened Nov. 23. It is the first Corpus Christi location for each of the retailers.

Other new tenants announced this year include Corner Bakery Café, which opened in July, and DSW Designer Show Warehouse, which is slated to open in early 2014. Several other existing tenants have also remained, including Subway, Victoria’s Jewels, SAS Shoes and Big Lots.

The center was purchased in April 2012 as a joint venture between Trademark and Institutional Mall Investors LLC (IMI). The design of the complete renovation and expansion will complement the adjacent 1-million-square-foot La Palmera mall, which underwent a two-year $50 million renovation after it was acquired by IMI and Trademark in 2008.

Once completed in 2014, there will be 26 retail and dining options in the approximately 200,000- square-foot center.

“We saw an increased demand from national retailers in Corpus Christi as a direct result of the tremendous success we have had at La Palmera,” said Montesi. “The redesign and renovation of The Shops at La Palmera allows us to better accommodate those wanting a presence in this market and creates a well-planned shopping district in the community.“
