La Palmera Fall Festival – Family Fun with Community in Mind

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (October 15, 2014) – Mark your calendars now for La Palmera’s Fall Festival, Saturday, October 25, from 2-6 p.m. It will be a day of fun and entertainment for the whole family, and a great way to learn about, and get involved with, the work of local charities in honor of national Make a Difference Day.

The fun kicks off at 2 p.m. with a pumpkin patch photo set on the front lawn, arts and crafts, face painting, pumpkin decoration and live entertainment, including popular local act, Chicas Rock, as well as a special Halloween themed fashion show presented by Aveda Institute of Corpus Christi in Center Court. There will also be costume contest for kids 10 and under, and one for pets as well in Center Court, with special prizes awarded. Contest registration begins at 2 p.m.

Several Coastal Bend charitable organizations will take part in the event in recognition of Make a Difference Day, designated as the largest national day of community service, spotlighting the good work of so many organizations across the country. Fall Festival participants include the American Red Cross, The Children’s Advocacy Center of the Coastal Bend, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, For the Love of Strays, and CASA of the Coastal Bend. Volunteers from each group will be on hand to assist with the various events and to inform the public about the organization. Donations are welcomed.

“We are looking forward to our first-ever Fall Festival,” said Fred Walters, general manager of La Palmera and The Shops at La Palmera. “It’s a way to pull the community together and will be a day filled with fun activities for families to enjoy.

“Just as the national Make a Difference Day celebrates serving local communities, we’re hopeful our event will generate awareness for many local organizations that do great work in the Coastal Bend. Guests will learn how they can get involved, and there may even be opportunities for some of those organizations to provide services to our guests. Through our own Make a Difference program, sponsoring various events and organizations, and hosting fundraisers and special events over the years, we have worked to raise, and assisted others in raising, more than $6 million for Coastal Bend charities. We will continue those efforts and encourage others to make a difference in our community as well.”

Community Programs Getting a Hand from La Palmera

Summer activities are fun, but also serve a purpose

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (July 23, 2014) – Sand sculptures, a giant shark and a playhouse. It’s all for fun, but it’s fun with a purpose as La Palmera continues supporting community programs in the Coastal Bend through its Make a Difference program.

The first effort this summer came in the form of a photo op with a giant sand sculpture in Center Court. Shoppers lined up July 3-13 to have their photo taken with the unique sand art, designed for La Palmera by local sand sculptor Chip Cooper, with a portion of the photo proceeds going to the Surfrider Foundation (www.coastalbend.surfrider.org) to help with local beach clean-up efforts. Done in conjunction with Hurricane Alley, La Palmera will present a $500 check to Surfriders on Friday, July 25 at 10 a.m.

“This donation will go toward our continued work to keep the Coastal Bend beaches and Gulf waters clean and open to the public,” said Neil McQueen, vice chair of the Coastal Bend Chapter, Surfrider Foundation. “This type of donation assists us in fulfilling the Surfrider Foundation’s international mission providing ‘protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network.’”

La Palmera will provide another philanthropic photo op in conjunction with Texas State Aquarium August 8-17 themed to the popular “Shark Week.” Guests can once again head to Center Court to have their photo taken with a large replica shark with a portion of photo proceeds going to benefit Coastal Bend Bays Foundation (www.baysfoundation.org) to assist with local conservation efforts.

Shoppers will also have the chance to win a playhouse-sized home, complete with a railed front porch designed by Braselton Homes. Located in Center Court, the unique “Forever Kids Braselton CASA” playhouse is being raffled off with all proceeds from ticket sales going to benefit CASA of the Coastal Bend. Tickets may be purchased now through noon on August 14 at La Palmera Concierge for $5 each, or two for $8. Guests can also make CASA donations on site at the playhouse. Details are available at www.coastalbendcasa.wordpress.com or by calling (361) 884-2272.

“Since 2008 when the mall became La Palmera, we have pursued a variety of opportunities to work with the Coastal Bend community,” said Fred Walters, general manager of La Palmera and The Shops at La Palmera. “Through our Make a Difference program, we have sponsored events and organizations, hosted fundraisers and blood drives, and acted as a venue for a number of non-profit and educational events. Since 2011, we have raised, and assisted others in raising, more than $6 million through various efforts at La Palmera.”

Each year the mall sets up “Pet Night” photo opportunities with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny with a portion of the proceeds going to organizations helping animals. The mall also has an ongoing “Change for Charity” program, collecting change from the Center Court fountain and presenting the proceeds to local community groups. La Palmera also maintains ongoing relationships with organizations such as The Coastal Compass Education & Career Resource Center, providing space for the not-for-profit organization designed to help Coastal Bend residents “discover their direction” while preparing for college or the workforce, and providing services to improve quality of life. Since 2010, the Corpus Christi Police Department has utilized office space at the mall for a satellite office

MOMENTUM CONTINUES AT THE SHOPS AT LA PALMERA AS FOUR NATIONAL TENANTS OPEN IN NOVEMBER

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Dec. 2, 2013) – The transformation of The Shops at La Palmera in Corpus Christi, Texas, continues as Dick’s Sporting Goods, T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods and Jared The Galleria of Jewelry all have recently opened in time for holiday shopping.

Trademark also announced the signing of Great Clips and Eden Nails and Spa for the outdoor center. Both are scheduled to open in spring 2014.

“The Shops at La Palmera continues to move towards completion with the opening of these four popular retailers,” said Trademark CEO Terry Montesi. “The renovation of this outdoor center is on schedule and we see it quickly transforming into the vision we had planned. We are pleased to have so many new retail options available for Corpus Christi shoppers.”

Dick’s Sporting Goods, the largest U.S. based full-line sporting goods retailer, held its grand opening November 1, T.J. Other new tenants announced this year include Corner Bakery Café, which opened in July, and DSW Designer Show Warehouse, which is slated to open in early 2014. Several other existing tenants have also remained, including Subway, Victoria’s Jewels, SAS Shoes and Big Lots.

The center was purchased in April 2012 as a joint venture between Trademark and Institutional Mall Investors LLC (IMI). Once completed in 2014, there will be 26 retail and dining options in the approximately 200,000- square-foot center.

“We saw an increased demand from national retailers in Corpus Christi as a direct result of the tremendous success we have had at La Palmera,” said Montesi. “The redesign and renovation of The Shops at La Palmera allows us to better accommodate those wanting a presence in this market and creates a well-planned shopping district in the community.“
