BACK-TO-SCHOOL— TIME FOR FRESH THREADS AND FRESH STARTS

CCISD on site with informative and fun activities; shoppers gear up for Tax-Free Weekend  

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (July 31, 2025) — Back-to-school shopping is underway as Coastal Bend school districts begin welcoming students for the new school year.

            As the Corpus Christi ISD prepares to start Aug. 12, La Palmera is hosting CCISD Day on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. in Center Court. The event will provide information on registration, programs and services, with live performances from cheer and dance teams, mascot meet-and-greets, and giveaways.

            La Palmera and CCISD are partnering for this year’s Back-to-School Challenge, a three-round competition open to all on a first-come, first-served basis, testing participants’ knowledge of La Palmera, including trivia, eye-spy, and problem-solving. The event will also take place on Saturday from 1–2 p.m. in Center Court, with La Palmera Gift Cards awarded to the top three finishers. One winner will also take home a grand prize of products from La Palmera shops and eateries valued at more than $1,000. Details are available on the La Palmera Facebook Event page.

Shoppers and retailers are also preparing for the Texas Sales Tax Holiday Friday, Aug. 8, through Sunday, Aug. 10, providing tax-free shopping on approved items priced under $100, including basic school supplies, backpacks, clothing and uniforms, shoes and accessories, a list of which is available online.

At La Palmera, shoppers will find children’s shoes and accessories, including the required clear backpacks at Dillard’s and Journeys; shoes and accessories at Journeys Kidz, Famous Footwear and Shoe Palace; uniforms at The Children’s Place, Dillard’s, JCPenney and Macy’s; athletic t-shirts and shorts from Champs Sports and JD Sports; denim and other clothing and accessories from Aeropostale, Buckle, francesca’s, H&M, OshKosh B’gosh, PacSun, Tillys, Vans and Zumiez; as well as makeup and grooming products at MAC and Ulta Beauty.
