CCISD Day, Nate’s Dream Big Back-to-School Scavenger Hunt and school supply drive, EDGE Esports event, and Texas Tax-Free Weekend await shoppers and students
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (July 27, 2026) — School bells will soon be ringing as local districts prepare to welcome students for the new school year, and La Palmera will be buzzing with free activities and events as families are gearing up.
Corpus Christi ISD classes begin Aug. 11, and La Palmera is again hosting CCISD Day on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. in Center Court. The event will provide information about school programs and services, with live student performances, mascot meet-and-greets, and more.
La Palmera is also partnering with Nate’s Next Kid Up for Nate’s Dream Big Back-to-School Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, Aug. 2, 1–3 p.m. in the La Palmera Cafes Food Court. It's an afternoon of free fun, including music by DJ Joe Blanco, where kids and families will explore the mall to complete fun challenges and compete for amazing prizes. All finishers with completed cards will win a prize and be entered in a special grand prize drawing at 3 p.m., with the first three finishers also receiving La Palmera Gift Cards. Nate’s will also be collecting school supplies and donations for local families in need.
Coastal Bend students ages 13-18 can do some fun hands-on learning as La Palmera teams up with EDGE Esports for a special event on Saturday, August 8, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. in the West Court near Journeys Kidz. The EDGE (Esports Development, Growth, and Education) Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to helping students build real skills — communication, leadership, STEM interest, and college readiness. The La Palmera event allows kids to play video games alongside EDGE student-athletes in a fun, welcoming environment, while parents can learn about EDGE programs, including college scholarship opportunities.
Shoppers and retailers are also preparing for the Texas Sales Tax Holiday Friday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 9, providing tax-free shopping on approved items priced under $100, including basic school supplies, backpacks, clothing and uniforms, shoes and accessories, a list of which is available online.
At La Palmera, shoppers will find children’s shoes and accessories, including the required clear backpacks at Champs, Journeys and Journeys Kidz, Foot Locker and Kids Foot Locker; shoes and accessories at Famous Footwear and Shoe Palace; uniforms at The Children’s Place, Dillard’s, and JCPenney; athletic t-shirts and shorts from JD Sports; denim and other clothing and accessories from Aeropostale, Buckle, Carter’s, H&M, OshKosh B’gosh, PacSun, Tillys, Vans and Zumiez; eyewear from Warby Parker, LensCrafters and Visionworks; as well as makeup and grooming products at Ulta Beauty.
